A Legacy Built on Strong Genetics & Honest Ranching

From global Dorper origins to a family-run operation focused on quality, every step reflects a commitment to performance and care.

Where Proven Genetics Meet Purposeful Ranching

In 1917 Peter and Margaret Knopp Bernhard started their homestead 9 miles west of Harper, Texas. The property had once been the "Red Hole" ranch headquarters for Captain Charles Schreiner.

They worked hard to rebuild barns, corrals and granaries. In addition to raising cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, chickens and grain to feed them, they also raised four children. Dennis Bernhard was one of their grandchildren. He and his sons continued the legacy of the Bernhard Ranch eventually settling into raising Dorper Sheep. Today Dennis' widow, Connie, continues with the Fullblood flock of Dorpers. Connie, and two of their children , Chad and Cyrena also maintain a flock of Commercial Dorpers. Connie and the next generations are committed to continuing the over 100 year old legacy of hard work, sacrifice and dedication to quality with honesty and open communication.

From Global Breed to Local Commitment

What began as a solution for harsh climates and growing demand has evolved into one of the most trusted sheep breeds worldwide. Dorper sheep now thrive across continents, valued for their ability to perform in both extensive and intensive systems.

This ranch carries that legacy forward, raising animals that meet modern production needs while staying true to the breed’s original strengths.

Rooted in Care, Raised for Performance

We won grand champion ram at the 2016 Dorper Hill Country Show and Sale, the first year after Dennis passed. But since that year the ranch is dedicated to marketing our quality Dorper Sheep private treaty off the ranch where our buyers can see that our sheep are pasture bred and raised to demonstrate the functionality of this outstanding breed. Yall come see us!
